For my link I worked with a local band HELLO DOLLFACE and their non profit IAM Music. I got to experience both the side of a professional touring musician and a business owner. Each day I spent two hours in a studio just writing music and then I spent the rest of the day working on branding myself creating album art and other things improving and exposing myself to the music world. I set up two projects within the three weeks, the first one was setting up a fake tour. I choose to tour farmers markets and restaurants around the coast of California which I plan on going on summer of 2017. The second project was an open mic night for local high school talent. The night was so successful that we are now going to make it a monthly thing next school year. Overall I had an amazing experience and it confirmed my passion for pursuing music.

I am pleased to announced that  the open night was a success and with be a monthly event for at iAM Music hosted by me!

Week Three, The Final Week...

This lat week has unsurprisingly been just as amazingly incredible as the last two. I have finished writing my song which I couldn't be happier about because it is the first song I feel proud enough to share. Along with a finished song I also have many starts to potential songs. I could not have written this song without the help from my incredible mentor. She taught me about song structure as well as gave me helpful critiques on my song that made it the best it could be. She has also provided me with the opportunity to record this song which we will do mid may. I have also completed my poster and advertising for the open mic night I will be hosting and it is already looking like its going to be a successful night. This was an awesome experience because it taught me about advertising as well as coordinating an event. These are both extremely important skills for musicians to have.

With my internship coming to an end I am left feeling sad but extremely inspired. Finding a path I want to follow for the rest of my life feels like a privilege not many people my age have. I cannot wait to apply all that I have learned through this experience and continue on my journey. Within just three weeks I have learned so many thing and gained so many experiences and I am forever thankful for this experience. This three week experience has equipped me with skill that are invaluable in the path i'm taking.  I have developed habits of waking up and reaching for my journal first thing in the morning or reaching for my guitar any chance I can get. This experience has shifted me into more of the person I aspire to be.

Week Two

My second week has been just as incredible as the last. This week I created an open mic night for high school students that will be hosted at iAM Music. This idea formulated due to the local open mic being shut down and relocated to a local pub. Although this open mic is still open to the high school age group my mentor and I wanted to create a scene and environment for teens to feel comfortable sharing their talent. The goal is for this program to be ongoing however that decision will be made based on the success of the first open mic. I cant wait for this open night and to see all the local high school talent. I have also fully booked my tour along the cost of California. This tour will be held at the beginning of summer 2017 and I will use the skills I learned on this internship as I make my way down the coast. This week has also inspired my to find my path after high school that goes beyond just continuing my music. My mentors are so selfless and giving and it inspired me to follow the same path they do. I plan on spending the first five years after college traveling and giving back to the world. After these years I want to open my own non-profit and provide music lessons to those who otherwise would not have that opportunity. iAm music and this internship has shaped my life in so many incredible ways and I can only hope I can do the same.  I have never been so eager to get up in the morning and start my day, heres to week three!

I am one week in to what has been the most life altering experience in the best way possible. Although it has been a lot of work, it has been work that I love to do and work that keeps me inspired! My mentor and I came up with a schedule that I will follow for the next three weeks. Within this week I had the opportunity of playing music at a local wine bar, begin to write a song, started to book a west coast tour, learned how to pack music equipment, how to book shows for myself, and much more. My mentor has given me a studio space equipped with instruments and solitude that I will use two hours a day. I use this space mostly for song writing and music theory practice. I have also been working on branding myself as an artist which has helped me find a path of what music and persona I wish to convey as well as develop a deeper relationship with myself. I already feel as though in this first week I can confirm my path of following my passion on music. With everything I am learning I am going in this direction with confidence and pride. I cannot believe I am living my dream of being a professional musician and I cannot wait for the weeks to follow!

Finding a LINK internship was a challenging yet extremely informative and beneficial for my future. Going into Junior year I had a set idea of what I wanted to do and who I was going to intern with however that plan quickly fell through. I then reached out to a bunch of different music companies but with no luck, I didn't even hear a response back from most. The months leading up to LINK we sneaking up quickly so I turned to to musicians that inspires me for advice, Jesse and Ashley from Hello Doll Face. I turned to them for advice on where else to send my resume but in the end ended up receiving a internship with them. I couldn't be happier with the way things played out and am looking forward to being able to work along side professional musicians.

In this internship I hope to gain insight on how to market myself in the music world as well as improve my songwriting, vocal, and instrumental skills. I am looking forward to seeing how they run their non profit as well as their band. I also hope this internship will help me decide if this is the career path I want to continue pursuing. I am looking forward to being exposed to the life of a successful musician!
